In the wild Budgies are green with a yellow mask (the head) and black shoulder spots. In captivity the have been bred to almost any color imaginable except red and black. After the wild green color, blue chest with with white wings covered by black marks and a white mask is next most common. Lutino, or all yellow, and Albino, or all White are other common colors. Most other colors are based on these ones. A list taken from Wikipedia lists all the colors. Please see their article for more scientific information on Budgie Color Genetics.

[edit] General Apperance

Budgies are about 18cm (7 inches) long and weigh 30-40 grams. At about 4-6 months old the cere, or area of skin above the beak where the nostils are located) will usually turn blue for males, and pink or tan for females. The often have a mustache like group of feathers on their face.
